What is the Festival of Dragons in South Wales?

Inside every child lies a hero, waiting for the call to adventure that will draw them from the ordinary world into the epic arc of the Hero’s Journey. At Margam Park’s Festival of Dragons, the mighty dragon Epico parts the mists of time, summoning families to the Land of Adventure for a day of non-stop excitement and immersive storytelling!

Crowds are whipped into a frenzy by Sir Aurelious Jones, the beloved knight of the realm, and his mischievous goblin servant. From among the audience, a young hero is chosen to undertake three formidable tests in pursuit of the Silver Breastplate. Their quest leads them into the heart of the Dragon’s Lair, where they must confront their deepest fears to rescue Sir Aurelious from a perilous fate.

The show places children in the role of expert, guiding Aurelious through lessons in courage, empathy, and the true meaning of friendship. Having saved both the knight’s life and his bond with Epico, the child is honored with knighthood and returns from the Heroic World forever changed.

Beyond the lair, the realm of fire and steel awaits. Smokey the Dragon is on the loose, and magic and mystery swirl through the air.

Sir Manly, Knight of the Realm, calls upon young knights, warrior maidens, princes, and princesses to join the Order of St George: Defender of Dragons. Applicants must possess bravery, a noble heart, and a willingness to face both inner fears and outer beasts. Experience with wild animals is a bonus - but not essential. (Note: Any injuries caused by combustion are the sole responsibility of the applicant!)
