National Trust Calke Abbey - This Grade I-listed country house, despite its name, has never actually been an abbey - but nothing is misleading about its stunning landscape gardens. We're excited to be bringing our cinema picnics to this centuries-old venue in the idyllic Derbyshire countryside.

Is Adventure Cinema in Derby wheelchair accessible?

Yes! Adventure Cinema in Derby is hosted at Calke Abbey. Please find Accessibility details below:

  • The event is held on flat ground with short grass and a slight slope at the back of the event space.
  • It is approx. 400m from the car park.
  • Most of this route is on a flat, gravel path; however, there is a sloping path down to the screening area.
  • On the return up to the car park, the path up the hill is steep and winding, with no handrails.
  • There will be accessible toilet facilities on-site.
  • Please speak to friendly stewards if you require any assistance. 

Deaf & Hard of Hearing Guests:

  • WatchWord smart glasses that display subtitles are available for Deaf and Hard of Hearing guests.
  • Availability is limited and glasses are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Carer Tickets:

Adventure Cinema offer a complimentary Standard ticket for a carer to attend.

What age is Adventure Cinema suitable for?

Film classifications always apply at Adventure Cinema events, and the team may refuse entry to anyone who is underage or unaccompanied.

  • For proof of age for age restricted films, please bring official photo ID with your date of birth, such as a passport, driving licence or student card.
  • Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. Children under 2 go free and do not need a ticket.
  • For The Gruffalo shows and Bing and His Friends at the Cinema, children under 1 go free but still require a ticket. All other ages will need a valid ticket.

Please ensure you are checking the age rating of the film you wish to see with Adventure Cinema.

What happens if it rains at Adventure Cinema?

All events are outdoor and will go ahead in the event of rain.

  • Please check the forecast on the day of the screening and come prepared for the conditions.
  • If it does rain, you just need to call upon the Great British spirit, dress accordingly, and live for the moment!
  • The team closely monitor weather forecasts in the lead up to shows and should there ever be any concern regarding the weather, all ticket holders will be informed by email/text but otherwise it can be assumed that shows will be going ahead as planned.
Is there food and drink at Adventure Cinema?

Food, snacks, soft drinks and a bar will be available at most events and the team recommend bringing cash as not all vendors will take card payments.

  • No alcohol or glass can be bought into Calke Abbey.
  • Please ensure all food is brought in non-glass containers.
  • You are welcome to bring your own picnic and snacks to all Adventure Cinema events.
  • Glass is not permitted at any venue, so please ensure all food and drink is brought in non-glass containers.

The team will always ask traders to cater for all dietaries, but if you have specific requirements, it is advisable to bring a little something along with you, just in case there isn’t something suitable at the event.

  • No BBQs are allowed on site.
Are there seats at Adventure Cinema?

Unless you have purchased a Premium or Director’s View ticket, you will need to bring your own seating.

  • A Premium ticket includes a luxury deckchair in a prime position.
  • Director’s View tickets include a front row director’s chair, and a blanket and Adventure Cinema treat bag.

Please note that premium and director’s tickets are priced the same for adults and children.
