Golden Beaches, Fisherfolk & Victorians
Nairn, known to this day for its golden sandy beaches, was once proclaimed "The Brighton of the North" and is one of the sunniest and driest places in Scotland and the UK. Since Victorian times, people have been enjoying their seaside holidays in Nairn.
Centuries earlier, King James VI boasted that he "had in his kingdom a town with a street so long that the people at each end spoke two different languages". This linguistic divide was also of a professional and cultural nature, the border between two very different worlds. On our private walking tour of Nairn, we will explore both of these worlds. You will hear about the tough life of the people in Fishertown and some of Nairn's illustrious and sometimes quite peculiar characters, famous visitors and a place that is even mentioned in the Bible. Our tour ends down at the beach, just a short walk away from the best ice cream on the planet.
