By Car:

  • The location is approximately 45 minutes by car from the centre of York, 50 minutes from Harrogate, and 25 minutes from Thirsk.
  • Visitors arriving by coach should contact the site prior to arrival.
  • A 10 mph speed limit applies on-site, and all drivers are asked to adhere to this restriction for pedestrian safety.
  • Upon arrival, visitors should follow the green ‘Visitor Parking’ signs leading to the car park at Alban Roe House Visitor Centre.
  • The car park includes 10 EV charging points.

By Rail:

  • Regular trains run from London King’s Cross to York, with a journey time of approximately two hours.
  • Services operate at half-hourly intervals during the day, and schedules are available on the National Rail website.

By Bus:

  • Transdev service 31X provides a bus route from York to Ampleforth.

It is often necessary to navigate slopes and steps in order to move between buildings (including retreat accommodation and the Abbey Church) car parks and walks.
