Step into a story that questions everything you thought you knew about helping others

A Fine Idea follows Jo, a dedicated aid worker who has spent years travelling the world, supporting communities and building a career around making a difference. But when she begins to question the very system she believes in, everything starts to unravel.

Spanning decades and continents, the play traces the origins of “international development” back to post-war idealism, revealing how well-meaning ideas can shape the world in unexpected ways. As Jo uncovers her grandfather’s legacy and meets activists fighting for change, she is forced to confront uncomfortable truths about power, inequality and impact.

With a striking script by Christine Bacon and direction from Charlotte Westenra, A Fine Idea brings together a talented cast to explore one of the most urgent questions of our time: do we really want to change the world, or do we just like the idea of helping?

This compelling production blends storytelling, history and modern-day realities to create a theatre experience that feels both personal and global. If you're looking for meaningful things to do in London, this is theatre that sparks conversation.
