How to find us

By car: 

Bodmin Jail is located just a couple of minutes from the town centre and can be found either by Sat Nav or by following the brown tourism directional signs once you reach Bodmin.

Sat Nav please use PL31 2PL

There are a number of car parks available locally:

  • Camel Trail Car Park - PL31 2NR (Please allow for a five-minute walk)
  • Berrycombe Road Car Park - PL31 2NP (Please allow for a seven-minute walk)
  • Dennison Road Car Park – PL31 2LL (Pay and display, short stay car park with 62 spaces.  Please allow for an eight-minute walk)
  • Priory Car Park – PL31 2DQ (Priory Car Park is a pay and display car park for approximately 150 cars with additional spaces adjacent to the Football Club. Please allow for a 14-minute walk)
  • Fore Street Car Park – PL31 2DB (Pay and display with both long and short term car parking.  Please allow for a 16-minute walk)

By Bus:

The local bus route will not take you directly the jail, but it will drop you off in Bodmin Town; an easy 10-minute walk away. We recommend that you check bus times with First Group before your visit. Please note that buses are only frequent in high season.

By train: 

Bodmin Parkway is on the mainline through Cornwall and is situated four miles outside of Bodmin Town. You will need to catch a bus or arrange a taxi for the journey from station to jail/Bodmin Town. To check for the latest train times and to plan your journey, please visit Trainline.

By bike: 

The jail is situated along the popular Camel Trail cycle route which runs from Padstow, through Wadebridge to Bodmin Town centre.  You'll find the jail at the end of the trail!  Please note there are limited secure bike racks at the jail.

Is Bodmin Jail wheelchair accessible?

Much of Bodmin Jail is wheelchair accessible, with lifts and platform lifts available along the visitor route. The Dark Walk route is level, although some original historic doorways are approximately 75cm wide. An accessible toilet is also available in the Naval Wing.

What age is Bodmin Jail suitable for?

Bodmin Jail is suitable for all ages, although parental discretion is advised. Some areas feature darkness, loud sounds, flashing lights and immersive effects which younger or more sensitive visitors may find intense. The Paranormal Audio Tour is recommended for ages 10+.

Does Bodmin Jail offer carer tickets? If so, how do I book a carer ticket?

Yes. One carer can enter free when accompanying a disabled visitor who requires support. Select the appropriate disabled ticket and bring valid supporting evidence dated within the last two years, such as a Blue Badge, Access Card, PIP or DLA award letter.

Yes. Moor Café at Bodmin Jail serves food and drink and can be visited by attraction guests and visitors without an attraction ticket.

How long do you need at Bodmin Jail?

Allow approximately 1.5–2 hours to explore Bodmin Jail. You may want to leave additional time to visit Moor Café and the gift shop.

Does Bodmin Jail have parking?

Visitor parking is available at Berrycoombe Car Park, a pay-and-display car park approximately a five-minute walk from Bodmin Jail. Visitors with mobility requirements can be dropped off at the front gate before their companion parks.

Are dogs allowed at Bodmin Jail?

Dogs are welcome in the courtyard, Moor Café and gift shop, but pet dogs cannot enter the museum due to the loud noises and sudden movements within the attraction.

Can you take photos at Bodmin Jail?

Yes. Photography and filming are permitted around Bodmin Jail, although flash photography is not permitted during the Dark Walk.

What do Bodmin Jail tickets include?

Standard self-guided Bodmin Jail tickets include admission to the visitor attraction, including the immersive Dark Walk and the historic jail museum. History and Paranormal Audio Tours are also included with self-guided admission.
