About Richard II at The Bridge Theatre in London

This age-old dilemma echoes through the centuries: how to handle a ruler with an unassailable right to rule who is determined to ruin the nation he governs.

Shakespeare’s nuanced, ambiguous, and beautiful play captures feudal England on the brink of modernity, as a divinely sanctioned monarch faces the pragmatic realism of true authority in the form of Henry Bolingbroke.

Jonathan Bailey stars as Richard II. His previous work includes roles in “Bridgerton,” “Fellow Travellers,” Cassio in Nicholas Hytner’s National Theatre production of “Othello,” and Edgar opposite Ian McKellen’s King Lear. He has also won an Olivier Award for his role as Jamie in “Company” and will play Fiyero in the upcoming “Wicked” movie.
