Motherhood, survival & one woman determined to keep going

They call her Baby. The name is full of hope, even when hope feels in short supply. She's had it tough, but she's bright, ambitious and capable of things nobody expects. What she wants is simple: to keep Bliss.

Something terrible stands in her way. As Baby tries to solve the problem in front of her, she turns to the audience for help, pulling you directly into a story shaped by trauma, motherhood, imprisonment and separation.

Pearl Mackie performs the solo role in this world premiere from writer Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti and director Milli Bhatia. Presented by Clean Break and Brixton House, the play draws attention to the realities experienced by mothers caught within the criminal justice system while balancing its difficult subject matter with sharp humour.

This isn't a story that tidies everything up neatly. Baby faces neglect, abusive relationships, imprisonment and separation from her child, but she's still fighting for a future and looking for a way through.

Book Baby tickets at Brixton House and see Pearl Mackie take on this intimate new play about survival, motherhood and what happens when the options keep running out.
