Set in Northern Uganda, Far Gone follows Okumu, a young boy whose life is irrevocably changed when his village is attacked by the Lord’s Resistance Army. In a single moment, childhood innocence is shattered, and Okumu is forced onto a path shaped by violence, fear and survival.
Told through humour, poetry and striking physical theatre, the story unfolds as an intimate act of storytelling, inviting the audience to journey with Okumu through loss, resilience and the struggle to hold onto humanity in the face of unimaginable circumstances.
Written by John Rwothomack and directed by Mojisola Kareem, the play is inspired by Rwothomack’s own near experience of abduction by the LRA, lending the piece its emotional honesty and urgency.
One performer, one story & an unforgettable theatrical experience
This solo performance places the audience face‑to‑face with the realities of conflict and its lasting impact on identity, family and belonging. Through inventive physical storytelling and lyrical language, Far Gone gives voice to stories that are too often unheard.
