RYA Powerboat Level 2 course details

  • Age: Suitable for ages 12+
  • Supervision: Participants aged 12–16 require adult supervision

RYA Powerboat Level 2 is designed for beginners who want to develop practical skills and a clearer understanding of safe powerboat operation. You will spend two days learning through a mix of expert instruction and hands-on experience.

The course covers the essential techniques needed to control a powerboat, from basic manoeuvres to launching, mooring and anchoring. You will also explore boat recovery methods, safe operation in different conditions and how to make sensible decisions based on the craft, the water and your own experience.

  • By car: From Chichester, follow the A259 westbound towards Bosham and turn left into Chidham Lane shortly after The Bosham Inn. From the west, follow the A259 towards Chidham and continue to Chidham Lane. Use PO18 8TE for your sat nav and follow the centre's signs on approach.
  • By train: The nearest railway stations are Bosham and Nutbourne. Cobnor Activities Centre is not within a convenient walking distance of either station, so arrange a taxi or onward transport before travelling.
  • By bus: Local bus services run along the A259 through the Chidham and Bosham area. The centre is some distance from the main road, so check current routes and arrange onward travel before your visit.
  • By foot: Cobnor Activities Centre is on the Chidham Peninsula and can be reached using local footpaths. An accessible coastal path also runs towards Cobnor Point, but visitors should plan their route before setting off.
