Looking for things to do in Portsmouth with the family?

The perfect family experience for a rainy day, The D-Day Story tells the stories and personal accounts of the people who fought in World War II through stunning audio-visual presentations alongside iconic military objects from the museum’s collection.

Journey through the museum

Your visit to The D-Day Story will start with the last surviving Landing Craft Tank from D-Day, as you learn how it played a vital role in transporting men and supplies across the English channel. Step on board and you'll find the Sherman and Churchill tanks, these have been positioned on the tank deck.

The next stage of your visit takes you into the museum. Discover more about 'The Plan'- how those in charge made the crucial decisions around when and where to cross the channel and the secrecy and deception required. Test your knowledge of what is true and learn how fact is sometimes stronger then fiction.

The Legacy Gallery features the magnificent Overlord Embroidery commissioned to remember those who took part in D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. Film clips of veterans talking about their experiences give visitors further insight to what took place.
