Edinburgh Playhouse

The Edinburgh Playhouse needs no introduction. Seating over 3000 people, it's the largest non-sporting theatre in the UK, and it's been the venue for countless amazing shows.

Few theatres in Britain can boast of having such a prestigious reputation, but the Edinburgh Playhouse has certainly earned it, and we know you'll be impressed by this spectacular venue.

A house of hits

Edinburgh Playhouse first opened as a super-cinema in 1929, but nowadays its stage is reserved for theatre productions.

This place has set the stage for box office hits like Cats and Wicked, and has hosted some of the most famous comedians and musicians in the UK (and beyond!). It's also a big venue for performers during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

If you're a fan of musicals, you're sure to be very familiar with plenty of the shows this place has seen. Feel-good productions like Matilda and The Lion King have run here in the past, as well as tear-jerkers like Blood Brothers and Les Misérables.

As you take your seat, you'll know that since this place has been entrusted to many of the biggest theatre productions in the world, whatever you go to see here is sure to be fantastic!

Food, drink, and what's nearby

If you want to grab some dinner before or after your show, the Playhouse has its own bistro, and it's in a great location that's packed with loads of other wonderful restaurants too.

Giuliano's Italian Restaurant, The Olive Branch, and Smoke Stack are just a few of the places in the vicinity that will give you a fabulous dining experience. Of course, if it's just a drink you're looking for, you don't even need to leave the theatre: the Edinburgh Playhouse has five bars!

Speaking of the local area, despite being such a huge name, this venue has also played a big role in giving the youth of the area opportunities to get into theatre and even perform on this legendary stage. These local projects are helping to create the next generation of theatre stars!

Edinburgh Playhouse is a truly fantastic venue, and since it's smack bang in the city centre of Scotland's capital, it's easy to get to (in fact, it's right next to Waverley train station).

If you're looking for an excuse to dress up and have a fantastic night out, this theatre is bound to have something you'll enjoy. Why not check out what shows are on and book yourself a ticket?
