About Jaja’s African Hair Braiding

Set in the heart of Harlem, inside a bustling West African hair braiding salon, the play unfolds over the course of one sweltering summer day. The salon is more than just a place for styling—it’s a sanctuary, a battleground, and a stage for dreams, drama, and deep connection.

As customers come and go, and braiders weave intricate styles and stories, we’re drawn into a rich tapestry of lives marked by ambition, resilience, and the pursuit of something more.

Through witty dialogue, layered characters, and moments of both uproarious laughter and quiet heartbreak, Jaja’s African Hair Braiding explores themes of identity, immigration, sisterhood, and survival. It’s a celebration of Black womanhood and community, told with warmth, humour, and unflinching honesty.
