Lyric Theatre

Lyric Theatre

Watch world-famous performances in the oldest theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue

Head to The Lyric Theatre, located in London's iconic West End, and marvel at the beautiful art deco design which was created during its 1932 renovation. The building was marked grade II listed in 1960, and it oozes history throughout. In fact, the theatre still uses an electric pump to operate the venue's remarkable iron curtains.

Nearby, there are plenty of options to enjoy a tasty meal to start your evening off the right way.

Let the show begin

Head into the box office and feel the excitement build. We recommend getting there early so you can grab a drink before the show. Take a seat and look at the beautiful art deco finishes and glistening chandeliers hanging down above you.

With a capacity of 915, this theatre has the right mix of an intimate setting with a great atmosphere. The lights dim, the soothing sounds of the orchestra begin to fill the room and the curtains begin to rise. You're most definitely in for a treat.

Currently showing

Until August, you can catch the legendary Six at the Lyric Theatre.

Watch as 500 years of historical heartbreak is performed in a tale all about Henry VIII's wives. The energetic and entertaining performance delivers all you could want from a musical - superb choreography, excellent songs and great acting. Praised around the world, this is one to watch!

Shows you may have seen

There's a chance you've visited the theatre before. Did you know that so many famous stars have trodden the boards? Marie Tempest, Laurence Olivier, Ian McKellen and John Malkovich - to name a few! - have all performed on this very stage.

Known for showcasing spectacular musicals, plays, and concerts, there's also been plenty for little ones to enjoy too. If you know a child who loves watching or reading about The Gruffalo (don't we all?), then you may well have booked tickets to see The Gruffalo's Child. Or maybe they still talk about seeing Room on the Broom Live at the Lyric.

Upcoming performances

There's a range of shows coming to the Lyric Theatre soon.

Do you want to hear all about famous reggae artist, Bob Marley's life in West End style? Be sure to see Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical. Or perhaps you're an Elton John fan and watching Elton John: It's A Little Bit Funny would be your ideal evening?

Here, you'll learn and (listen to) the fascinating story behind what led to him being one of the most successful singer/songwriters of all time.

How to get here

We recommend using public transport as it's the easiest way to get around Central London.

If you're coming by tube, the nearest underground station is Piccadilly Circus. There's plenty of buses if you're travelling through the city too.

Bringing the car? Take advantage of the Q-Park Theatreland scheme, where you get 50% off your ticket. Pull up at Q-Park Leicester Square which is only a four-minute walk from the theatre - so you can be back in your car singing the songs you've just listened to in no time!
