World-class piano music performed live this Christmas at St Giles' Cathedral
Step into the candlelight and hear Beethoven's much-loved Moonlight Sonata performed live inside St Giles' Cathedral, right in the heart of Edinburgh's historic Royal Mile.
On 11th December, acclaimed British concert pianist Warren Mailley-Smith takes to the piano for a programme spanning Grieg's Wedding Day at Troldhaugen, Liszt's Liebesträume, Rachmaninov and Debussy to Chopin's Raindrop Prelude and Fantasy Impromptu. Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata follows before the concert finishes with the unmistakable energy of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.
On 18th and 19th December, award-winning pianist Ugnius Pauliukonis takes over with a different programme. Hear Beethoven's powerful Pathétique Sonata alongside Bach's Sheep May Safely Graze, Liszt's Sonetto del Petrarca 123, Tchaikovsky's suitably seasonal December from The Seasons and Debussy's Clair de Lune.
Both Ugnius Pauliukonis performances culminate in Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, bringing one of the world's best-loved works for solo piano to the atmospheric surroundings of St Giles' Cathedral.
