Nick Thorn was one of those people. With a deep love for the coast, Nick has spent his life never too far from a surfboard.

His passion for the sea and surfing is what inspired him to start his own surf school – to share those same passions with any who wished to join him.

North Devon is a haven for surfers, and it’s where the Nick Thorn Surf School has found its home. Whether you’ve never touched a surfboard before or you’re looking to pick up some new tips and tricks, the sessions are adapted around you.

Sessions to choose from

If you’re looking to meet new people on a similar surfing journey, the group sessions are ideal. You’ll have an experienced instructor leading you over the two-hour session, providing a supportive and relaxed atmosphere.

The private surf sessions are more for those looking to really dial down their surfing ability. You’ll receive 1:1 coaching during the session, with a lesson tailor-made for you.

As well as surfing, the school provides paddleboarding lessons and coasteering experiences.

Paddleboarding can be a very tranquil, peaceful activity. As you drift along on the waves, time seems to get lost.

Coasteering, on the other hand, is a thrilling way to explore, filled with plenty of scrambles along the rocks and jumping off cliffs into the sea.

All the activities provide something a little different. But one thing they all have in common is the setting – the serene, stretching coastline of North Devon.
