How to find us

Raby Castle is located on the A688, around 1 mile north of Staindrop. From the north, travel via the A1(M) or A68, then follow the A688 westbound towards West Auckland and Barnard Castle.

From the south, leave the A1(M) at Junction 58, travel towards West Auckland, then turn left onto the A688 towards Barnard Castle; Raby Castle is on the right-hand side. From the west, use the A66 to Bowes, then the A67 to Barnard Castle before taking the A688 towards Staindrop and Bishop Auckland.

If travelling by bus, alight at Raby Castle, North Lodge. Visitors can also travel by train to Darlington Train Station and continue by bus or taxi.

Are the Raby Estates wheelchair-accessible?

The Raby Estate aims to make visits as accessible as possible, but access inside Raby Castle is limited because it is a historic Grade I listed medieval building.

Parts of the castle ground floor, as well as the gardens and deer park, are wheelchair accessible.

Can I buy food & drink at the Raby Estates?

Yes, food and drink are available at Raby Estates, including The Vinery Café and The Garage Café during its seasonal opening times.

Can I bring my dog to Raby Estates?

Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in the Walled Gardens, Deer Park, The Vinery Café and Coach House Shop at Raby Estates.

Only assistance dogs are allowed inside Raby Castle, and dogs are not permitted in The Plotters’ Forest.
