Richard Jones brings a striking new production of Bellini’s final opera, I puritani, to the stage—an emotionally charged drama powered by one of bel canto’s most exquisite scores.

About I puritani

Set against a backdrop of political division, the story follows Elvira, a young Puritan woman deeply in love with Arturo, a man from the opposing Royalist faction. Though her father initially resists the match, he finally gives his blessing, and their future seems secure.

But on their wedding day, everything unravels. When Arturo helps a Royalist prisoner escape, he vanishes without explanation, leaving Elvira convinced she has been betrayed. Overwhelmed by grief, she spirals into madness.

As Arturo is later condemned for treason and faces execution, the lovers’ fragile happiness hangs in the balance. Can love survive betrayal, loss and political turmoil?
