About Wayne McGregor: Alchemies

A visionary choreographer and master collaborator, Sir Wayne McGregor has redefined contemporary ballet. As Resident Choreographer of The Royal Ballet, his work consistently pushes the boundaries of classical dance, drawing inspiration from art, literature, science and technology.

Created for the Bernstein Centenary in 2018, Yugen is McGregor’s contemplative response to Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. Developed with artist Edmund de Waal, designer Shirin Guild and lighting designer Lucy Carter, the ballet is reflective, luminous and quietly uplifting.

Untitled, 2023 is inspired by the bold minimalism of artist Carmen Herrera, who collaborated with McGregor on her first and only stage designs. Set to Anna Thorvaldsdottir’s powerful score, with sculptural lighting by Lucy Carter and stark costumes by Burberry, the work is precise, intense and elemental.
