About The Lady from the Sea at the Bridge Theatre in London

A thrilling dissection of desire, loss and rebirth for the contemporary age, The Lady from the Sea follows the tale of Ellida who lives with her husband and stepdaughters in a remote coastal town, where the sea seems to echo the life she left behind...

Fearful she may have settled too easily for a comfortable life married to a well-off Doctor, Ellida is desperate to find a way to break the predictable routine her existence has become.

When a lover from her past appears at their country house, Ellida finds herself stuck - she has to choose between the life she has now built, and the one she left behind long ago.

Written and directed by Simon Stone, the adaptation brings Ibsen's psychological drama into the present, exposing the quiet devastations of compromise and the seductive danger of unfinished stories.
