What's On The Cambrian Coast Express with Vintage Trains?
Vintage Trains invites you to experience one of Britain’s most scenic railway adventures with the Cambrian Coast Express! This full-day diesel-hauled rail tour takes you through the heart of Mid-Wales and along the spectacular Cambrian coastline - where mountains meet the sea and every curve reveals a postcard-worthy view.
- Step aboard for a nostalgic diesel-hauled journey through the Welsh countryside and along one of the UK’s most dramatic coastal railways
- This train will be hauled by the Class 37, 37240, throughout with the train. From Shrewsbury, the Class 37 will be double-heading the train with a Class 97 to Aberystwyth and return
- Ride behind a heritage diesel locomotive as you travel through the Severn Valley, climb the Talerdigg summit, and descend into the Dyfi Estuary, hugging the coastline all the way to Pwllheli
- Arrive in Aberystwyth, a vibrant coastal town with something for everyone
- Visit the Vale of Rheidol Railway and its museum, home to beautifully preserved steam locomotives
Ride the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway, the longest funicular in Britain, for panoramic views from Constitution Hill - Stroll along the Victorian promenade, explore the ruins of Aberystwyth Castle, or relax with fish and chips by the sea before boarding for your comfortable journey back home

What is the difference between carriages and classes on Vintage Trains?
There are multiple seating options with Vintage Trains:
- Tourist Class: You’ll be seated at a table for four in one of the Tourist coaches, where you can head to the buffet to purchase hot drinks, soft drinks, light refreshments, and alcoholic beverages during your journey.
- Pullman Class: Tables of two or four. You’ll be seated in one of the original Pullman Cars, where you’ll enjoy a full English breakfast and a delicious three-course evening dinner, with tea and coffee - all served right at your seat.
- First Class: In compartments of six and 18 non-dining seats in Pullman around tables of four. You’ll be seated in one of the luxurious First Class coaches, where you’ll enjoy bacon rolls and pastries on the outward journey, followed by a delightful Afternoon Tea on the return.
Can you bring your own food and drink onboard Vintage Trains?
If you are travelling in a Tourist Class or Pullman Cars where no restaurant service is offered, then you are more than welcome to bring your own food.
Food is not permitted in First and Pullman Class restaurant cars.
