On your visit, you can discover the Ginny Spring Site of Special Scientific Interest. Thanks to it being an area rich in over 20 species of flora, some of which are rare, you can be sure to see an abundance of gorgeous wildflowers and wildlife on your visit.
The three walking trails
Follow the colour-coded waymarkers to stick to the route you want to take. The yellow trail is less than one mile long and takes you to the pond through magnificent wildlife. Look out for tadpoles and butterflies when you’re down at the pond and see what other wildlife you can spot.
Up for something a bit longer? Head for the one and a half-mile long blue trail and explore the centre of the woodland, before a trip to the pond and then heading back to the information board where you can learn all about the area you’ve just fallen in love with.
The longest of the three walks is the red trail. This two-mile route will take you around the woodland, rich in flora, there’s plenty to see all year round.
Lunch with a view
Be sure to make a yummy picnic before you leave so you can tuck into scrumptious sandwiches while embracing your beautiful surroundings at the picnic area.
The area is so wonderful, you’ll be eagerly looking for an excuse to stop, sit down and take it all in, so this is the perfect chance.
Whichever trail you decide on, you can be sure you’ll have seen lots of beautiful sights and will leave feeling calm and perfectly content.
It won’t be too long before you’re heading back for another adventure at Whitwell Wood, what delights will you encounter on your next visit?
