Right in the heart of York, York’s Chocolate Story brings the city’s sweet legacy to life. This fully guided, interactive attraction takes you on a flavour‑filled journey through 4,000 years of chocolate history, from ancient cocoa rituals to the world‑famous treats made right here in York.

Why York Became the Home of Chocolate

York isn’t just good at history — it’s great at chocolate. Discover how iconic chocolate‑making families helped shape the city, creating household names that travelled the world. Along the way, you’ll hear the real human stories behind the factories, the innovation and the impact chocolate had on York’s communities.

A Guided Tour with Plenty to Taste

Every visit is led by a knowledgeable guide who brings the story to life with demonstrations, displays and plenty of chocolate samples. You’ll learn how cocoa is transformed from bean to bar, how to taste chocolate like an expert, and what makes each creation unique.

Get Hands‑On with Chocolate Making

This isn’t just a museum — it’s a do‑something experience. During your tour, you’ll get hands‑on with chocolate making, creating your own chocolate treat to decorate and take home. It’s a highlight for children, grown‑ups and anyone who likes getting creative with cocoa.
