Travel back to the 19th century as you descend 500ft into Llechwedd’s fascinating past.

You’ll step aboard the underground train on Europe's steepest cable railway and learn about all 16 underground levels of this iconic mine. You’ll see where the famous Llechwedd Cheese is matured as well as the eight underwater layers of the mine.

The knowledgeable local guides will take you along the hand-carved chambers of this walking tour. You’ll learn all about the history of the mine and the work done by the former miners, local men and children who risked their lives every day to produce world-class slate.

Tours are available in either English or Welsh to suit your preference.
