Tucked away in the Cumbria countryside

With the sea to the south and the hills of the Lake District to the north, Eggerslack Woods in Cumbria has nestled itself in quite nicely between two of Britain’s most breathtaking natural environments.

But Eggerslack holds its own beauty that’s hard to replicate anywhere else.

Under the first arching branch that shelters you on your travels, the peaceful easiness that comes with escaping to the woods fills your mind.

The soft, floral-scented air fills your lungs and calms your thoughts with every step you take.

The sound of crunching earth below your feet and rustling leaves above – the only sounds in the world – until the birds have something to say that is; then the place takes on a whole new musical life.

A shelter with character

You could easily head to Eggerslack Woods and spend the day wandering through nature, but if you’re up for something a bit further afield, the wood can easily be tied into longer walks over Hampsfell.

The open landscape here allows for views of the Cumbrian countryside that stretch far into the distance.

Climb to the top of Hampsfell Hospice for an even better viewpoint, and before you leave, be sure to step inside and read the little plaques on the walls.

Town or the treetops?

You decide when your ramble in nature comes to an end, Grange-over-Sands is just south of Eggerslack Wood and we couldn’t think of many better places to extend your day of exploring.

Roam around the town’s Ornamental Gardens before stopping off at The Hazelmere for a delightful afternoon tea.

Or if you want to get those adrenaline levels spiking, jump in the car and head north to Grizedale Forest.

You’ll be zipping through the trees on Go Ape’s Zip Trekking Adventure before you’ve had the chance to let out that Tarzan call you’ve been practicing all week.
