Not too far from Llanidloes is a magical wood where the River Severn proudly rolls through the land, flowing past the trees and plummeting down cliffs.

Named after the Welsh name for the Severn, Hafren Forest is a beautiful place with walking trails that can be enjoyed by everyone, the perfect place to immerse yourself in nature and see stunning waterfalls.

If you’re looking for something less intense, try the Cascades Walk, which will take you along the riverbank to viewing platforms where you can watch the awesome waterfalls.

If you’re looking for a challenge, however, there are longer more difficult walks like the Source of the Severn Trail.

This eight-mile trek will take you right to the source of the river this wood is named after, and you’ll pass fascinating historic sites along the way like standing stones and abandoned mines.

Fall for the waterfalls

Not only do they pass through woodlands and along rivers, the trails at Hafren Forest will also take you to meadows, bogs, and moors. These landscapes are as beautiful as they are diverse.

There are so many amazing things to discover as you explore this wood, including native wildlife such as ospreys!

These incredible raptors make this place their home during summer before returning to Africa for the autumn, so if you’re lucky and keep your eyes peeled, you might even get to see one.

Hafren Forest is full of diverse, natural landscapes that are sure to stick with you, especially the roaring cascades and waterfalls.

With something for everyone to enjoy, Hafren Forest is a wonderful place to visit for your next outdoor adventure.
