This tour of Manchester traces the city’s rich history of music and art, highlighting the venues and musicians that have shaped its vibrant music scene.

Led by Nic, a friendly and entertaining tour guide, “Wonderwalk” aims to make you fall in love with Manchester’s music just as he did from an early age.

At every turn and stop, Nic will captivate you with stories that blend the city’s musical heritage with his own experiences. You’ll journey through the Rave Revolution ignited by the Hacienda, explore the reggae vibes at Thirsty Scholar, and appreciate the classical opera scene at the Royal Northern College of Music and Bridgewater Hall.

Nic believes that music is for everyone. Throughout the tour, he will take you to parts of the city that inspire and introduce music, art, and dance to those who are isolated or anxious.

Tour highlights:

During this walk, which spans just under two miles, you’ll visit several notable locations, including:

  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • Big Hands: The first stop on the tour, this small venue boasts a BIG reputation.
  • Contact Theatre: A key stop on Nic’s tour, this theatre focuses on introducing the arts to community members who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience them.
  • Royal Northern College of Music: This globally renowned conservatoire hosts an incredibly diverse range of public performances.
  • Deaf Institute: A grand gothic-style building with a fascinating history, where Nic delves into the intricate architecture of this classic Manchester venue.
  • Dance House: Stepping into this building is like traveling back in time to 1930 when it opened as the world’s first twin cinema. Nearly a century later, it has transformed into a reputable venue for dance, comedy, and theatre.
  • HOME Liberal Arts Centre: Adding a personal touch to the tour, Nic shares his claim to fame as he starred in the film “Traidout,” which premiered at this prestigious venue. This was part of an ‘Acting on Impulse’ collaborative project that Nic discovered through his involvement with Back on Track.

This can vary from tour to tour, but Invisible Cities prefer to have tours starting with three customers. The maximum capacity is usually 20 or 25.

Is your group bigger? Don’t panic. They can accommodate any size, if you have more than 25 people they will simply split your group between several guides at no added cost to you!

The tours delivered by Invisible Cities take you on a unique route, but most of them are wheel-chair accessible.

They can also adapt their tours to your group and guests, so everyone can enjoy them!

No! Rain or shine, your tour will go ahead, unless there is a weather warning and you have been advised to stay inside (which has happened in Scotland before!)
