Invisible Cities recruit and train people who have experienced homelessness to become walking tour guides. Those people end up offering you unique, off the beaten track tours of their cities!

Their experienced tour guides, all of whom have been affected by homelessness, simply live and breathe their cities. These walking tours truly are an original experience, offering a way to sightsee through someone else's eyes and have an individual perspective of your chosen city!

What tours can I do with Invisible Cities?

  • Real Women of Edinburgh: Leave your guidebooks at home and dive into the local cultures that make each destination so special. Discover stories of women throughout History: witches, murderers, mothers and doctors.
  • Uncover Stories of Crime and Punishment: Learn about the Covenanters and the first concentration camp in history. Hear stories about Deacon Brody, the character that inspired Jekyll and Hyde, before making your final stop at Street Work.
  • Ales & Alleyways: Andy’s Stories of Pubs: Each stop on the tour intelligently weaves elements of Andy's memories, the story of that specific venue, and how it is contextualized in Manchester’s history. He touches on music, the suffragettes, football, Peterloo, Little Ireland and art in Manchester.
  • The Story of Guy Fawkes: Beyond a tale of gunpowder, treason and plot, this walking tour of York tells the comprehensive story of Guy Fawkes. Learn your guides family history in York, growing up to the influences surrounding him as a Protestant and later a recusant Catholic.

How big/small is the capacity for a tour group?

This can vary from tour to tour, but Invisible Cities prefer to have tours starting with three customers. The maximum capacity is usually 20 or 25.

Is your group bigger? Don’t panic. They can accommodate any size, if you have more than 25 people they will simply split your group between several guides at no added cost to you!

Are Invisible City tours wheelchair friendly?

The tours delivered by Invisible Cities take you on a unique route, but most of them are wheel-chair accessible.

They can also adapt their tours to your group and guests, so everyone can enjoy them!

Will the tours be negatively affected by weather conditions?

No! Rain or shine, your tour will go ahead, unless there is a weather warning and you have been advised to stay inside (which has happened in Scotland before!)
