Discover walks, wildlife, and history in one impressive location

Sence Valley, northwest of Leicester, is an idyllic haven for both wildlife and visitors. The rural and peaceful surroundings provide a tranquil escape where you can connect with nature.

98,000 trees were planted here after the coal mine closed and it's now the perfect place for you to pop on your walking boots or trainers and get exploring.

With fully accessible surfaced trails running through the woodland and around the lakes, you'll be able to catch up with friends or let the little ones teach you all the exciting things they've learned at school this week.

What could be better than chatting to loved ones and getting your step count up for the day?

You never know what you’ll find

If you've got a keen bird watcher in your family, they’ll be pleased to know that over 150 species of bird have been seen in the area - so be sure to bring along a pair of binoculars to see the beautiful birds up close.

Visit the hide for the best view and have a look through one of the viewing screens to see which rare birds, insects, and butterflies you can spot. Maybe you'll see a beautiful kingfisher or a majestic grey heron sitting beside the water.

Prefer a slightly faster pace? Bring along your bike and take in your surroundings as you pedal along the shared access trails, feeling the breeze on your face. The woodland provides the perfect place to increase your confidence on the bike while you enjoy spectacular views.

Worked up an appetite?

All this walking is bound to get your stomachs rumbling and luckily there are plenty of beautiful picnic areas.

The picnic area next to Horseshoe Lake is the ideal spot to tuck into those delicious sandwiches and scrumptious cakes.

There’s nothing stopping you

As you walk through the woods, listening to the birds in the trees, admiring the beautiful flowers and sun peeping through the branches, you’ll be glad you took the time to visit Sence Valley.
