Meet the Cairngorm Herd for a truly magical experience this Christmas

As the only free-ranging reindeer herd in Britain, these gentle creatures spend most of the year roaming the Cairngorm mountains, but during the festive season, they come closer to spread some holiday cheer.

Visitors can choose from two unforgettable ways to meet the herd: Paddock Visits and Hill Trips.

Festive Fun in the Paddocks

Dates: 6–7 December, 13–14 December, and 20–24 December 2025 Opening Hours: 10am – 4:30pm on weekends in December

On select December dates, a small group of reindeer will be on display in the Paddock area, offering a charming and accessible way to enjoy these magical animals. Perfect for families and festive day-trippers!

What’s included:

  • 30 minutes of reindeer fun!
  • 4–6 reindeer in a beautifully decorated outdoor paddock
  • Santa sightings throughout the day, complete with sweet treats for well-behaved visitors
  • Friendly herders sharing stories and fun facts about the herd
  • Hands-off viewing — you’ll be close to the reindeer, but no petting or feeding allowed

Important Reminder: The Paddock area is completely outdoors with no covered spaces. Please dress warmly and bring waterproof clothing to stay comfortable during your visit.

What should I wear for a Cairngorm Reindeer Herd Hill Trip?

Sturdy footwear (wellies or hiking boots), warm layers, and a waterproof jacket are essential. Visitors who arrive without proper gear will not be allowed to join the trip.
