London's Best Buildings Tour Itinerary
- Meeting Point: Temple Station - We’ll meet outside the exit for Temple Station at Temple Place, Temple, London WC2R 2PH
- Chapter One: Seventeenth Century Splendour - Explore one for the building blocks of modern London’s DNA at a Wren Church with famous associations and the story of how the churches of London came to influence cities around the world.
- Chapter Two: A Medieval Masterpiece - One of the few surviving fragments of medieval London and a remarkable survivor.
- Chapter Three: A Cathedral To Power - Delve into the story of Giles Gilbert Scott who inadvertently helped to create one of the world’s greatest modern art galleries with his design of a power station, which one might also experience as an industrial cathedral.
- Chapter Four: Phoenix From The Flames - It has been a hallowed place in London for two thousand years and the current St Pauls rebuilt after the Great Fire in 1666 is perhaps London’s finest of all its buildings. The story behind it and the people who built it is remarkarkable and touches upon genius. Here we delve deeply into that story; what was and what could have been too. This tour does not enter the Cathedral as standard.
- Rest Stop - You’ve seen the masterpiece, now enjoy a refreshing drink in the pub built for the people who made it.
- Chapter Five: Brutalism At The Barbican - Cripplegate like so many neighbourhoods in Europe was ravaged by war and what stands in its place now is a battlement for the modern city dweller as though conjured by Corbusier.
- Chapter Six: Structural Expressionism - Two remarkable buildings adjacent to one another, designed by the same team forty years apart and yet both resemble artefacts of the future.
