The simple act of walking has a power that many don’t even realise.

When you’re out in nature, the sky above you and the earth crunching below your feet, peace arrives; a wave of calmness closely following behind.

The team at Wales Outdoors realised this long ago. Their adventures across the country, from the mountains of Snowdonia to the high hills of the Brecon Beacons, filled them with a love of the outdoors and a mission to expose others to it.

The wonders of walking

And that’s exactly the opportunity they’re offering you now. Every month, guided walks are held throughout Wales and beyond that bring a community of likeminded people together.

There’s something uniquely special about going on long hikes with people who share your passions.

Conversations arise as easily as putting one foot in front of the next, the fresh air fills your lungs, the only thing that matters are the people and wilderness surrounding you.

The walks often last a few hours, covering a fair few miles. When they begin, the excitement of getting outdoors fills you. Then, after a few hours, you begin to fall into a peaceful rhythm where your body and mind feel completely linked.

By the end, slightly achy and ready for a sit-down, the excitement of getting home and sinking into a warm bath takes over.

Foraging in the wild

There are few things that can make a walk in the outdoors any better, but one of those is foraging.

Nature is filled with delights that most of us just don’t know how to find and identify. On one of the foraging experiences Wales Outdoors hosts, you’ll be led by an experienced forager who’ll teach you how to spot some of them.

Over the course of a few leisurely hours of walking, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to get your hands dirty and learn all about the art of foraging.

Take some time out for yourself

Most of the walks take place over one day. But if you’re looking to escape for a little longer, why not hop on one of their expeditions?

They take place over the course of a few days, involving a lot of walking and even more natural beauty.

It’s a completely different world when you’re living wild. You wake up with the sun, watching it rise above the horizon before your day of exploration ends as you collapse into your sleeping bag.

Every now and then, whoever you are, an adventure in the outdoors calls out. When will yours begin?
