How to find us

Please note: Due to the rural nature of the locations, postcodes are not always accurate when using Sat-Nav directions. Please always cross reference with a map.

Please do not use the Ferry across Windermere, it will delay your journey, you might miss your session and this will result in the possibility of not being able to do your activity.

Waiting times for the ferry are often in excess of 45 minutes. Feel free to use it on your return journey when you have more time.

By car:

  • From the South: via the A590 and Newby Bridge. Follow signs to Hawkshead, past the Swan Hotel at Newby Bridge and through Lakeside, up the west side of Windermere. As you come to Hawkshead (approximately 8 miles, 20 minutes, from the A590 turn) take the small left turn signed to Grizedale next to two white cottages. If you go past a repair garage and a primary school, you have missed the turn. Continue for three miles up over the hill and down the other side and park in Kennels car park on the right, or Hall Car Park on the left another half mile further on.
  • From the North: Get to Ambleside and follow the signs to Hawkshead and then to Grizedale, taking the small right hand turn 200 yards past the school. Continue for three miles up over the hill and down the other side and park in Kennels car park. From Kennels Car Park, follow the large finger board signs to Go Ape. This will take you alongside the river and underneath the course itself. It will take approximately 5-7 minutes. From Hall Car Park, walk uphill following signs for the Visitor Centre. Cross the road and enter the Courtyard. From there, Go Ape is opposite the Play Park. Approximately 5 minute walk.

Wear sensible clothes for adventure and please ensure your midriff is covered.

Gloves are a good idea. Either bring a pair or you can buy them at the cabin on the day.

Will my Go Ape adventure be cancelled in bad weather?

Go Ape is an excellent wet weather activity! The course remains open in all weathers, except when it is icy, stormy, in high winds or during lightning.

Rain makes the course muddier than usual – which all adds to the fun! Don’t forget to dress for the weather. Sometimes, unfortunately, Go Ape might need to close the course for reasons beyond our control, if this happens you will be given a full refund.

What time should I arrive to my Go Ape activity?

Please ensure you arrive for your Go Ape activity 15 minutes before your session begins.

Is Go Ape wheelchair-accessible?

Go Ape take pride in sharing their activities with as many people as possible.

All courses are designed to be accessible, but they do offer a degree of physical and mental challenge. This may mean additional equipment or adjustments to supervision.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Go Ape in advance at [email protected]

Can I bring my phone or camera to Go Ape?

Please do! You’re going to want to capture these moments to share!

In order to keep your gadgets and others safe, Go Ape asks that all phones and cameras are attached to the participant. Lanyards are available to buy from the cabin, subject to availability.
