Shiverpool's Auld City and Dead House tour is one of the best days out for those looking for unique days out in Liverpool

Venture into a world of contrasts with Shiverpool on the Auld City and the Dead House Tour!

Uncover the lesser-known, shadowy passages of Liverpool within the bustling commercial district. Listen to Liverpool's oldest recorded ghost story and delve into the hidden history of these intriguing side-lanes. Discover the city's ties to a secretive spy during the American Civil War and reveal the covert location of the former headquarters of the American Confederacy.

The immersive journey culminates within the city's oldest morgue, nestled serenely in a medieval garden beneath the Gothic spire of a floating chapel. This quiet chamber, known as 'The Liverpool Dead House,' is reached through a trapdoor and holds its own stories, echoing the past. But be warned, ghostly presences are said to lurk in the area...

Highlights of the Auld City and the Dead House tour includes:

  • Exploring the original seven streets of Liverpool and its ghostly past
  • Listen to the grim tales of slavery, plague, cholera and the filthy slums that so many poor souls found to be their final resting place told by guides through enthralling storytelling.
  • See for yourself the stunning architecture and secret streets of Liverpool’s Commercial District.

Shiverpool is for all ages! Shiverpool is designed for everyone to enjoy through its rich blend of street theatre storytelling, true grisly history, humour and phantasmological fun.

The locations where each of the tales are told are spaced quite evenly along the tour route. Walking between locations lasts between 5-8 minutes at a time. The entire route spans up to 1500m.

The tours last for one hour and 30 minutes.

Shiverpool tours are recommended for children aged nine and upwards, however there isn't a tight restriction on age limit. Parents should use discretion.

Due to the nature of the Shiverpool experience, only guide dogs are allowed to join on the tour.

Due to the nature of the experiences, unfortunately wheelchair or pram users will not be able to be accommodated on all Shiverpool tours.

For some wheelchair users and prams, The Hope Street Shivers Tour is recommended.

However it is important to state that the gradient of some very steep slopes and the nature of some of the surfaces – such as uneven and old public high-ways and cobbled surfaces make it a challenge for some wheelchair users.
